Valuing Ourselves: Embracing Innate Worth and Positive Self-talk

How often do we catch ourselves thinking something negative about ourselves? Maybe it’s a quick, almost automatic thought like: “Oh, that was so stupid—why did I do that?” or “I must be the ________ on the planet.”

That kind of constant inner dialogue wears us down—emotionally and energetically. The tricky part is that it often happens so fast and so subtly that we don’t even notice it. Then we’re left wondering why we are feeling down or have low self-esteem about ourselves.

And, if you’re thinking this kind of self-talk doesn’t affect your energy, let me explain. A few decades ago, the idea that “we are energy” was mostly talked about by those considered “out there” or “enlightened”! Now, science has caught up. We are energy, and we are influenced by frequency. Music is a perfect example—different sounds and rhythms can move us emotionally and even physically. Our thoughts work the same way. They carry a frequency, and they affect us deeply.

So, when we constantly think negative thoughts—even in the form of harmless self-deprecating humor—it can slowly chip away at our sense of self-worth. Over time, it shapes how we value ourselves.

The good news? There are many ways to begin rebuilding and lifting our sense of worth. But for today, I want to highlight one simple starting point: innate value.

Just by being alive, just by being here on this planet, you already carry incredible, divine value and self-worth. It has always been yours and always will be. No one else in the entire world is exactly like you—and that uniqueness alone makes you valuable, both to yourself and to others.

You’ll probably laugh at what sparked this thought for me early this morning. Last night I was watching a video of two ferrets chasing each other in circles through a plastic tube. My reaction? “Oh my gosh… they’re so hilarious, so fun, so crazy! Thank goodness we have little goofs like that in the world—they bring us so much joy just by being themselves!”

Now, are ferrets seen as really important to us humans? Not really. They don’t earn money, take out the garbage, or clean the house. But they are just their authentic, goofy selves—and we adore them for it. Ferrets may not be your thing (they’re not really mine either), but I love the joy, playfulness, and free-spirited energy they bring into the world. That makes them soooo valuable.

So, here’s the question: if they are valuable just by being themselves… how much more valuable are you?

It even reminds me of a certain biblical phrase about worth in God’s eyes and the sparrow. Strange comparison, I know—but that’s just how my quirky mind works!

So, remember your innate value, catch those negative self thoughts and remind yourself of all the wonderful things about yourself!!!
